20th January 2022 – The Aussies have taken down New Zealand and India, to move to the first position in the ICC Test cricket rankings.
While New Zealand held on to its 2nd spot, India have dropped to the third position, after a gut wrenching loss in the South African series, where they went down 1-2, losing two out of the three games.
The Aussies however, rode on the 4-0 ashes victory against England, missing a fifth win at Sydney, where the English managed to draw the match after the number eleven batter Jimmy Anderson survived the final 6 balls.
The 4-0 win gave Australia the boost to move up the rankings from the third spot to the coveted spot, movinga head of Kiwis, the World Test Champions (WTC) and displacing India, the runners up of the WTC.
The new rankings also saw, New Zealand skipper rising to the third spot in the ICC Cricket rankings for Test Batters, displacing Aussie Batter Steven Smith. However, another Aussie batter Marnus Labuschagne has held on to his top spot. He is miles ahead of Joe Root, who has kept his second spot.
The Aussie test skipper Pat Cummins has also held on to his top spot in the rankings for Bowlers, closely followed by Ravi Ashwin.
The Aussies, however are rated third in ODIs and sixth in T20Is. They would love to turn it around and get to the top spot in all the formats of the game.
