During the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Prime Minister Modi declared January 16 as the “National Startup Day”. As a part of the event, PM Modi interacted with more than 150 startups through video conferencing.
He interacted with many youngsters from the startup ecosystem discussing the Indian startup landscape and stuff related to it. During the interaction, Modi said “Five years ago, there were less than 500 startups in India, today there are close to 60,000 startups in the country. Startups will be the backbone of new India,”.
He also stated that 42 startups have turned unicorn in 2021 which is a big achievement and called this decade as “techade” of India. PM Modi added that the government is focusing on the below 3 important factors to strengthen the innovation, entrepreneurship and startup ecosystem.
- Liberating entrepreneurship and innovation from the web of government processes,
- Creating an institutional mechanism to promote innovation
- Young innovators handholding of youth enterprise
Since many startups are from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, PM Modi said the government will focus on the further development of rural and semi-urban areas.
“Let us innovate for India, innovate from India,”
The prime minister asked startups to follow the mantra as the country is inching close to 100 unicorns.
PM Modi confidently said that “Our startups are changing the rules of the game. That’s why startups are going to be the backbone of new India,”
