19th January 2022 – Two unidentified bags set off a bomb scare in the national capital today ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
However the concerns were relieved as the Delhi Police found only a charger, a laptop and a water bottle inside the bags.
“A PCR call was received regarding two unidentified bags, Our teams reached the spot and found nothing suspicious there. There was a laptop, tiffin, charger, water bottle and some food items inside the bag. It’s a case of bag lifting. We’ve identified the person and will hand over the belongings,” noted Priyanka Kashyap the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The fire department had received a call around 1 PM regarding the bags in Trilokpuri. The Delhi police arrived soon after, and cordoned the area for investigations.
It was not days before, on January 14th, that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) stuffed with ammonium nitrate and RDX was found inside an unattended bag at a flower market in Ghazipur. The bomb detection and disposal experts had dug an eight foot pit to carry out a controlled blast to dispose the bomb.
The Delhi Police have tightened their security after they received intelligence report of a possible terror attack in the city ahead of the Republic Day.
It has been the nature of terrorist outfits to conduct terror activities ahead of the Independence day and the Republic day. In the year 2020, the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed had planned a major attack which was foiled by the Srinagar police ahead of the Republic day.
Similary in the year 2021, intel reports were received by Delhi police about a possible terror attack by Al Queda
