Mr. Rahul Bajaj, former chairman of Bajaj Auto, died today in Pune at 83. The industrialist stepped down from the chairman role in April last year.

Mr. Rahul Bajaj, the former chairman of Bajaj Auto, passed away at 83 on Saturday. He passed away amongst his closest relatives. His funeral will be held tomorrow in Pune.

The Bajaj Group is known for its Auto, Finance, Insurance, FMCG, electronics businesses throughout India. Bajaj Auto was famously known for its ‘Chetak’ brand scooters.

Last year, Mr. Rahul Bajaj stepped down from the chairman post of Bajaj auto in April. He was named the emeritus chairman of the group. Rajiv Bajaj is the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto since 2005.

PM Narendra Modi hailed the contributions of Mr. Rahul Bajaj to Indian Trade & Commerce on Twitter and shared his grief because of the passing away of the industrialist.

“Shri Rahul Bajaj Ji will be remembered for his noteworthy contributions to the world of commerce and industry. Beyond business, he was passionate about community service and was a great conversationalist. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti” the PM tweeted.

The President, Ram Nath Kovind, also paid his respects to the veteran industrialist.

“Saddened to learn of Shri Rahul Bajaj’s demise. A doyen of Indian industry, he was passionate about its priorities. His career reflected the rise and innate strength of the nation’s corporate sector. His death leaves a void in the world of industry. My condolences to his family,” the President tweeted.
