Today morning, a 3 kg bomb was found in a random bag at the East Delhi flower market. A controlled explosion was carried out by the police to defuse the bomb.

It is suspected that it is a terrorist attempt ahead of Republic Day on January 26.

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said that the IED bomb was kept in a bag on a TVS Scooty left by a random customer. The flower seller noted it later, found something suspicious, and informed the police immediately.

Police rushed to the spot to defuse the bomb. Delhi Police Special Cell immediately blocked the entry to the market when the disposal squad started their operations. They dug an eight feet pit to make a controlled blast.

The market was located near the border between Noida and Uttar Pradesh. Police reported that the bomb was planted in such a way to blast during the time which the crowd will be higher in the market and damage will be tremendous.

“Initial examination shows that the explosive is a nitrate and RDX mix. The triggering device could be a clock or a mobile phone,” police sources said.

Further investigation is carried out by the police.
