The AIMIM chief’s vehicle was attacked yesterday while he was returning to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh after campaigning for the upcoming elections.
“Don’t need Z-security protection,”: Asaduddin Owaisi
Yesterday, on his way to Delhi, returning from Uttar Pradesh, the vehicle of AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi was shot four times. Fortunately, he was uninjured & safe. The Union government, considering the threat, immediately offered Z-security protection to Mr Owaisi.
“I was leaving for Delhi after a poll event in Kithaur, Meerut. Around three to four rounds of bullets were fired upon my vehicle by two people near Chhajarsi toll plaza, and they were three to four people. Tires of my vehicle punctured, I left on another vehicle,” Mr Owaisi said while describing the event.
Mr Owaisi demanded the Election Commission for an independent inquiry following the event.
Today, speaking in the Parliament, Mr Owaisi rejected the offer & also questioned why people arrested over the incident were not charged with UAPA. He also said his life would be safer when the poor were safe in the country.
“I don’t want Z category security. I want to be an A-category citizen, at par with you all. Why was UAPA not invoked against those who fired at me? …I want to live, to speak. My life will be safe when the poor are safe. I will not get scared of those who shot at my car,” he said in Parliament.
Police arrested two people over the incident with locally made guns they used to fire at his vehicle. Investigation to find the source of the weapon is still underway.
