February 11, 2022 – India posted a decent score in the final ODI of the series against West Indies, as Shreyas Iyer slams 80.
India made four changes, as regular opener Shikhar Dhawan came back into the playing 11. Kuldeep Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar also got game time, ahead of the IPL auctions.
The West Indies meanwhile had just one change with Hayden Walsh Jr coming in for Akeal Hosein.
Rohit Sharma won the coin toss and chose to bat first, trying to achieve what they achieved in the previous game.
The plan to bat first did not go well, as Alzarri Joseph bowled a double-wicket maiden in his second over prizing out Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
India’s scoreline read 16/2 at the end of the 4th over. Shreyas Iyer and Dhawan tried to keep the runs coming, but soon Dhawan perished to Odean Smith in search of a boundary.
Rishabh Pant then joined hands with Shreyas Iyer and slowly took India to safe waters. Once the pressure was off, both the batters started to score quickly and got to a 110 run partnership. In the process, they got to their respective half-centuries.
Pant, however, got out soon after reaching his 50 edging Hayden Walsh to the keeper. Surya Kumar Yadav could not last long, as he perished to Fabian Allen.
Shreyas continued to go for his shots but ended up giving a catch to Darren Bravo at long-off.
Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar soon rebuilt the Indian innings with Chahar being the aggressor.
However, Jason Holder got the better of Chahar as he pulled a short ball to Shai Hope. The rest of the Indian batters stayed with Washinton Sundar to help give the team a decent score.
India ended the innings at 265, losing all the wickets.
For West Indies, Jason Holder was the star bowler taking 4 wickets. West Indies would hope to chase this total down, meanwhile, India will look to repeat what they did in the previous game.
