The Election commission of India has announced relaxations for election campaigns beginning for Phase 1 & Phase 2 elections from February 10.
Relaxation for election campaigns
The prohibition on roadshows and rallies for the following month’s state election was extended till January 22nd on Saturday by the Election Commission of India, with specific relaxations for the initial two phases of elections on February 10 and 14.
The ECI held a discussion with the Union Health Secretary & 5 state health secretaries to take an audit of the covid situation before deciding to relax restrictions.
The Election Commission had restricted political rallies and roadshows until January 15 first and later expanded the restrictions till January 22 for the five states holding elections, starting February 10 – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa.
Relaxation includes increasing the number of people allowed for door-to-door campaigns from 5 to 10.
