Another prominent Congress leader RPN Singh joins BJP and quits Congress while the state elections are ahead next month. After posting his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi on Twitter, RPN Singh tweeted that joining BJP is a new beginning for him under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Sources say that he may contest in UP polls from his strong zone Padrauna, where he was elected as MLA thrice. RPN Singh was a big shot in Congress and was also in the party’s star campaigner list which was published yesterday. Along with his resignation letter on Twitter, he tweeted “Today, at a time, we are celebrating the formation of our great Republic, I begin a new chapter in my political journey. Jai Hind,”.
Mr Singh is likely to contest against Swami Prasad Maurya, who recently quit BJP and sources say that Singh will fill the place left by Maurya in Eastern UP. Reports say that Mr Singh was upset by the party’s leadership of denying the tickets to his associates.
After Jitin Prasada, this is the biggest exit in UP and the party has lost many leaders in the last two years including Jyotiraditya Scindia’s exit in 2020.
Congress leader Rajesh Thakur stated that “It’s sad. Many in-charges have come and gone, doesn’t matter. He must have decided after a lot of thinking. We’re true soldiers of Congress, we’ll live and die here. We think his decision is wrong,”.
