“SBI Policy is discriminatory & illegal,”: Delhi Commission for Women

The country’s largest public sector bank in its new recruitment policy said women who are not less than three months pregnant will be considered temporarily unfit for recruitment & promotion. The policy for recruitment will be effective Dec 2021 & for promotion from April 2022.

The recruitment notification of SBI elicited criticism from several political parties & social activists. Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, said the policy is discriminatory & illegal in a tweet. She also emphasized the immediate withdrawal of the order.

Binoy Viswam, secretary CPI, called the notification a ‘crime against motherhood’ via tweet. He also asked for the intervention of the Finance ministry.
