The first phase of polling at the UP assembly election 2022 ended at 6 pm on Thursday, and the state recorded 59.61 percent of votes till 5 pm. Although the overall voting process was peaceful, there occurred technical errors in EVMs at a few places.
In the first phase, there were six hundred twenty-three candidates contested in elections, and around 2.27 crore people were eligible voters. There are 58 constituencies spread across 11 districts in the western part of the state.
While speaking in an election rally at UP’s Saharanpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Yogi Adityanath government has consistently strived towards preventing crimes against Muslim women. In contrast, the Opposition has stood on their side for the sake of votes.
On Wednesday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the BJP has to observe silence for its 2017 manifesto as the party could not keep up the promises made five years ago.
The first phase of elections was fierce, where the ruling party BJP is expected to face a tough challenge from the alliance of Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). The entry and exit of ministers will likely impact the polls.
